-Billed as "exciting new sounds in the folk tradition", Sounds of Silence consists of five stanzas, which mainly describes the conflict between spiritual and material values in our world. The song has been considered as folklore because it focuses on the restless dream of the narrator, including numerous allegorical implications such as the darkness, void, spirits, and weird people. The lyrics have strong cultural and religious implications. In addition, he song itself is a discussion of a spiritual experience and the material culture, which is in line with the characteristics of folklore.

-Sounds of Silence significantly impresses me since the implications are extremely profound. The writer of the song tries to warn people not to spend too much time on blindly worshiping meaningless things, indicating that the silence between people is abnormally growing, which reduces the communication and deepens the estrangement between people. The song regards this situation as "cancer", which highlights the seriousness.
I think that this song is extremely inspiring, for showing me another perspective of viewing things. And I like the literary devices, including the use of the metaphor, imagery, and the atmosphere.
